Learning Outcome 2:In paper two, the Meal Analysis essay, my thesis stated how although the concept of cooking has evolved over the years, it should still be a part of our lives because it is an important concept. I used three papers from my peers, and Michael Pollan’s text “Out of the Kitchen Onto The Couch.” One main point that Pollan made that I also agreed with was that cooking has made us who we are today. It teaches us determination, confidence, and courage. I used a quote from one of my peers that talked about their family business and how hard his uncle works. He works all morning to prepare for lunch and dinner. He makes everything from scratch and it pays off in the end. I also used a quote from another peer whose grandmother did a similar thing. She cooked homemade meals for her family just so that they could enjoy family dinners together every night. I also related this point to Julia Child’s flip, and how this can give people confidence in themselves as well as they can learn from their mistakes. I picked out two quotes from my peers that showed their two distinct cultures. I was able to support the statement that cooking helps express culture through these two quotes. Its important to explain these quotes before and after it is incorporated into the paper. It helps explain the significance of the quote and how this is related to the point that is being made.
